Today I went to Toronto and went to Shihan's house to train. I woke up at 6:30 and got in John's car. John is my sempai. And one of my senseis were in the car too. When we got to Shihan's house, Daniel who is Shihan's son, trained us. I practiced pinan katas. Then we did sparring techniques. We trained for 3 hours and then we went to Subway for lunch. I got a chicken sub with a root beer and a cookie. Then we drove all the way back to Collingwood. It took 2 hours each way. We are going to do that every Saturday this summer.

This is me getting my brown belt!
I just got chosen to go to Japan for a karate world championship for July 2013. I will go to Toronto and stay with my grandma for a week and train every day at the JCCC. I am very excited because I will get to compete internationally and have a trip to Japan with my family. Also, I can learn how to speak Japanese. That will be cool! My parents lived there for 5 years so they taught me a few words like konichiwa, gancky desca, and gambate but it's pretty hard to learn.

My Second Tournament

I had a tournament on November 13, 2010 and it was really fun.
It was a big tournament and it was in Toronto at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC). There were lots of people there and some where from JCCC, some were from Collingwood (which is where I came from) and some were from Wasaga Beach. Some of the people came from Alberta, 2 people were from Ireland and one person even came from Japan!!! We have tournaments to see who is the best in Canada. It is a Canadian Championship, just like last time. It felt good after the tournament because I came first in sparring (fighting), I came second in Team Kata (moves put together and do them in a team), and third in Individual Kata.  It was really exciting because at the end of the tournament we got a big trophy that said, "Team with most medals and trophies" and it is really hard to get.

My Heavy Bag

August 23rd, 2010 - Georgian Triangle Karate Club

I got a heavy bag for my birthday. It was one of my favourite presents. My Nan and Pop gave it to me and gloves came with it. They gave it to me at my birthday party which was at a cottage my cousins were renting. I wanted a heavy bag because I wasn't very good at sparring and a heavy bag will help me improve. All you do is kick and punch it and that's what you need to be good at sparring. I plan on doing 50 kicks and 50 punches everyday so I can get ready for my tournament that is coming up.
Thanks Nan and Pop!!
My sister likes the heavy bag too....

How I got my Orange Belt

June, 2010 - Collingwood Ontario. Georgian Triangle Karate Club.

Just before our summer break we had a ranking at our club. A ranking is a special event where club members try and get their next belt.
Our Sensei invited six black belts from another club (Wasaga Beach) to judge the ranking. To get my orange belt I need to know; 10 Kihon Kumite, 8 Kata, Pinan Nidan and Kotai Ren. These are all basic moves of karate.
After I completed all these moves my sensei told me what I did well and what I need to improve. Then he congratulated me and told me if I got my belt or not.
It felt great to get my orange belt!
